Salmon are Late This Year...A few salmon have been caught, but not in large numbers yet. This is the latest salmon run in recent memory.
We are keeping our eyes peeled for production in the shipping lanes, Stony Point wall, Sandy Pond and the salmon River.
If this trend continues, we expect salmon season to run much past Labor day as well.
Lake trout fishing, on the
other hand, was excellent, particularly off Stony Point finger, Calf spit and off Stony Creek in 95-145 feet. Best attractors
have been chartreuse-silver, chartreuse-red, silver laser green, monkey puke and watermelon.
brown trout
has been up and down, but some nice ones are being caught. Best baits have been Stingers, NKs, Fishlanders or similar
spoons in your normal chartreuse-red, silver-black, silver-green, silver-orange and silver-blue.
Once again,
Henderson Harbor has continued to produce some abundant and good-sized perch. Live bait is best in 15-35 feet of water
in front of Henchen marina, the Gill House, off Paradise Park, Association Island and Six Town Point.
Bass
fishing has been spotty. Some of the better places to fish have been around Galloo Isalnd, around stony Island, calf
Island spit, Chaumont Bay, Black River and Henderson Harbor.

Heavy winds and changeable weather has affected fishing on some days, but when the weather improves brown trout fishing was
productive in some areas. Best places were the shipping lanes, north and south Sandy Creek, Stony Creek and Sandy Pond
in 80-130 feet of water. Best baits were NK 28s and Michigan Stingers in black-silver-purple, black-silver, silver-banana
and black-purple-white.
Lake trout fishing has been excellent off the finger. Best depths were 100-145 feet
using cowbells in watermelon, silver-chartreuse and silver-green with following spin & glo's, peanuts and Fireplugs
in glo-green, glo-white and glo-blue.
Bass fishing has been uneven, some days slow, others excellent.
Biggest problem has been with round gobies stealing bait. Still, fish for bass in the usual spots such as around Stony Island,
Calf Island and Little and Big Galloo Islands.
Walleye are in transition and hard to find right now.
Hopefully this will change soon.
Perch fishing continues to be highly productive.
King salmon fishing
has begun to slowly pick up. Areas where they show up first are the shipping lanes wall, Stony Point wall, the finger
and south of Galloo and Calf Islands. Best lures in the past couple of years have been Michigan Stingers, Northern Kings,
Fishlanders and other similar spoons in black-silver, silver-banana, chartreuse-red or green-black. Downriggers down
60-110 feet in 80-130 feet of water are the usual place to start.

Lake trout fishing has been good off the "finger" with most fish in or under the "slot." Some of
the best baits have been Flat Fish in glo-green, spin & glo's or peanuts in chartreuse-fire dot, glo-green, glo-blue
and green on lime green behind cowbells, silver-cracked ices, silver lue and silver chartreuse. Brown trout
fishing also continues to be good. We've seen many nice catches with Michigan Stingers, NK 28s or similar spoons
in silver-blacks, silver-purple, silver-orange and silver-blue at 40-90 feet of water. Again, the most productive areas
include Drowned Island, Sawyers Bay, Stony Creek, the head of Stony and Galloo Islands, Stony Point wall and Point Peninsula.
Bass fishing has really picked up at all the normal places such as Gull and Bass islands, Black River, Chaumont
Bay, Sawyers Bay, Stony, Galloo and Calf Islands. Crabs and minnows are baits of choice. Perch fishing
continues to be exceptional this year, with some very nice size ones off Bass and Gull Islands, Campbells Shoal, along the
east shore above the Gill House in Henderson Harbor and Cherry Island, using worms or minnows. Still not seeing
much king salmon activity. Expect that will change very soon. Information provided by Bob Dick of Moby Dick
