Henderson Harbor Area Fishing Report Update
Salmon fishing has really picked up.  Some anglers have had success 20 miles out while others are getting good action off Calf Island, Stony Point wall, the finger, in front of Stony Creek, off Sandy Creek and in front of Sandy Pond.  Baits are varied depending on where you fish.  Many are using spoons in a combination of colors mixed with black and glo's.

We're really seeing some nice lake trout this year, a number of them in the 20-25 pound range.  Fish for lakers off the Stony Point finger, Calf spit and off Stony Creek in 95-145 feet of water.  Fireplugs, peanuts, spin & glo's, Flat Fish and Kwikfish in greens, blues and silver reds have been the favorites.  Best attractors have been chartreuse-silver, chartreuse-red, silver laser green, monkey puke and watermelon.

Bass fishing has picked back up, too.  Try the Stony Creek area, around Galloo Island and Stony Island, Calf Isalnd spit, the high rocks and in Henderson Harbor itself.  Besides using crabs and minnows for bait, some anglers have had great success with Mister Twisters and tube jigs close to shore.  Best depths have been 10-40 feet of water.

Can't say anything about perch fishing in Henderson Harbor this year that hasn't already been said.  Fantastic fishing, nice sized perch.

Henderson Harbor Weather...er..Fishing Report

West winds and 7-8 foot waves made many of the Eastern Lake Ontario fishing hot spots difficult to get to last weekend.  Some Henderson Harbor fishing charter captains shortened their trips orcancelled them altogether due to rough conditions.

During the week we did experience some greater calm, allowing anglers to get out there and do some lake trout and salmon fishing.  Salmon are getting closer now; a few have been taken off the finger, near Stony Point wall and in front of Sandy Pond. Best baits were e-chip pro-trolls with A-Tom-Mik flies and spoons in silver-chartreuse, purple-silver and glo-green-black in 120-140 feet of water.

Bass fishing has been entirely affected by the west winds. On calmer days in the Henderson Harbor area you can get to them.  Tried and true lures are Big Os and Bombers, or the goby-like Storms.  Most Henderson Harbor anglers tend to use live bait for smallies, softshell crabs and minnows, and stick to fishing off Calf, Galloo, Drowned and Stony Islands.

What can we say about perch fishing in Henderson Harbor?  Perch as big as 11-13 inches have been caught using perch minnows and worms in front of Henchen Marina and the Gill House, and off Paradise Park, Association Island and Six Town Point in 15-35 feet of water.

That's what John told me yesterday when I called to get the latest fishing report before I head back up to Henderson Harbor this afternoon.  Kings are on the move now, in the shipping lanes, off Stony Point wall and the finger, and south of Galloo and Calf Islands.  Use Stingers and NKs or similar spoons in black-silver, silver-banana, chartreuse-red, green-black-silver or orange silver.

Lake trout fishing has been strong.  Smallies are being brought in off and on.  Perch fishing in Henderson Harbor continues to be productive.

Not Seeing Many Kings...Yet

But we expect to very soon.  In the meantime, anglers have been bringing in some nice lakers, some over 20 pounds, off the Finger and in the Slot, in water over 160 feet. Flat Fish and spin and glo's or peanuts in various greens, blues and chartreuse work best.  Also use attractor cowbells in flat silver. Bass and perch fishing remain strong.  Brown trout fishing has been inconsistent.

Updated Henderson Harbor Area Fishing Report

Trolling for bass using Rapalas and Reef Runners in black-silver, orange, fire tiger and chartreuse has worked to bring in some nice catches.  Best spots are off Galloo Island, Calf Island and Stony Island, as well as Chaumont Bay and Point Peninsula.

Brown trout fishing continues to be up and down.  Best baits have been Stingers, NK 28s and similar spoons in chartreuse-red, silver-black, silver-green, silver-orange and silver-blue. Better catches have been made using downriggers than planer boards lately, in 20-60 feet of water.  Try fishing for browns off Drowned Island, Sawyers Bay, Stony Creek and at the head of Stony and Galloo Islands.  Some hve been caught in front of Sandy Pond as well.

Walleye fishing has been slow. Best places have been off Black River Bay and Bull Rock, Grenadier Island, Fox isalnd and in 60 feet of water off the cut.  Reef Runner and Thunderstick deep divers in blue-silver, black-silver and fire tiger have worked best, in 50-65 feet of water.

Not seeing king salmon in any numbers yet, and only a few lake trout so far have been taken southwaet of Calf and Big Galloo Islands.  Start stocking up on your glo green peanuts and spin & glo's or silver-blue bells with blue glo Flat Fish if you're going for lakers.

Perch fishing continues to be unbelievable.
